Parker, Craig fall in tennis
Janesville Parker High boys tennis team slipped to .500 in Big Eight with a loss Thursday at Madison Memorial.
The Spartans won, 6-1, dropping the Vikings to 4-4 in the conference.
“They’re an awfully tough team,” Parker coach Mike Fuhrmann said. “We had a lot of confidence, but we were unable to pull things off tonight.
“The scores weren’t quite the whole story,” Fuhrmann said. “Our No. 3 doubles team (Craig Spangler and Kitchell Garey) had six of the 12 games at deuce. Our No. 1 singles guy, Nick Gilbank, had six of 12 games at deuce, but we couldn’t finish the game off.”
The Vikings complete their Big Eight dual schedule Monday with a home match against Middleton.

-- West 7, Craig 0—Madison West lost just four games in four singles matches to dominate Janesville Craig (2-6).
“I thought we’d be a little more competitive,” Craig coach Gary Hallowell said. “We just didn’t finish points. We did play competitively in doubles.”
Craig’s No. 1 doubles team of Ben Tanko and Steve Mickelson led 5-4 in the second set and was on the verge of forcing a decisive third set. But West’s Mitch Polelle and Will Elsas won three straight games to close out the set and the match.
Craig comples its Big Eight season with a dual meet Monday at Verona.
