Janesville lacrosse falls to No. 5 Regents
FITCHBURG The Janesville Lacrosse Club stayed with the No. 5 ranked team in Wisconsin before falling to the Regents, 12-6, at McGaw Park here Thursday.
Janesville got on the board first when Sean MacDougall found the back of the net just 29 seconds into the match. But the Regents, a team comprised of players from Madison West and Edgewood high schools, answered with a goal from Tim Neumann and the score was knotted at 1-1 after the first period.
The Regents opened up a 4-1 lead on two more Neumann goals and Corey Elfman goal before Janesville’s Tyler O’Rourke scored with 59 seconds left in the first half.
Janesville came out firing in the third quarter, getting a goal from Sean Davis and three scores from Darian St. Michael around a pair of Regent goals to tie the match at 6-6 after three.
But the Regents scored six unanswered goals to pull away at the end. Neumann and Elfman each had five goals for the Regents.
The Regents outshot Janesville 47-29. Janesville goalie Ryan Johnson had 15 saves.
The Janesville JV fell to the Regents JV, 6-3.
Janesville (4-4 Madison Area Lacrosse Association White Division, 6-8 overall) travels to Middleton (5-3 MALA Red, 10-5 overall) at 5 p.m. Thursday for a playoff game. Janesville’s Saturday game against Waukesha has been canceled because the Nighthawks are unable to field a full team due to injuries.
The Janesville JV opens the playoffs with a rematch against the Regents JV at 6 p.m. Tuesdy at McGaw Park.
