— A man accused of robbing or attempting to rob pharmacies in Edgerton and Milton was arrested Wednesday.

Kurtis J. Stapleton, 32, Fitchburg, is suspected of attempting to rob Edgerton Family Health Pharmacy, 711 N. Main St., at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday, according to Edgerton police.

He also is suspected of robbing Mercy Milton Pharmacy, 725 S. Janesville St., at about 9 a.m. Friday, April 17, according to Milton police.

Stapleton was arrested on charges of robbery and attempted robbery, according to Edgerton and Milton police.

He wanted to rob the pharmacies of prescription drugs for his own addiction and for sale in the Madison area, Milton police detective Ryan Justice said.

In the Edgerton case, Stapleton is accused of passing a note to a pharmacy clerk demanding Oxycodone and Percocet.

Stapleton also implied he had a gun, Edgerton Police Chief Tom Klubertanz said.

Pharmacy workers didn't comply, and Stapleton fled, he said.

A description of Stapleton's vehicle and its license plate was sent to law enforcement agencies, according to Edgerton police.

The Wisconsin State Patrol and Dane County Sheriff's Office stopped Stapleton on Interstate 90/39 in Dane County, Klubertanz said.

In the Milton case, Stapleton is accused of implying he had a gun and robbing Oxycodone and Hydrocodone from the pharmacy, Justice said.

He was suspected of driving a mid- to late-1990s gold or tan Ford F-150 pickup truck, which was located Tuesday at Stapleton's house, Justice said.

It is unknown whether Stapleton is responsible for any other robberies in the area, he said.

This is awful, I haven't seen him since highschool but he really was a great guy. I guess the power of drugs can make anyone into a different person.
