WCLO's Steve Benton reports on the annual "mock crash" drunk driving lesson taught at Craig High School this year.

— An annual "mock crash" re-enactment was played out at Craig High School Monday morning.

As students stood around an overturned pick-up truck, fire department equipment, squad cars, and a hearse, all filed into the school's rear parking lot. While firefighters pried the door off the truck, one of the mock accident victims was put in a body bag, placed in the back of the hearse, and driven away.

The student actor, playing the role of the drunk driver, was given a field sobriety test, cuffed, and placed in the back seat of a squad car. Several students questioned after the event said watching the re-enactment will make them think about their plans for prom night.

The Janesville school district uses the mock crash as a teaching tool during prom season. Next year the students at Parker High School are expected to get another version of the lesson.
