Macha says pitch at Braun's head worth MLB review
MILWAUKEE Brewers manager Ken Macha suggested a pitch by Chicago Cubs starter Ryan Dempster that glanced off the helmet of Brewers slugger Ryan Braun on Saturday deserves to be reviewed by Major League Baseball.
Dempster hit Braun with the pitch in the fifth inning of the Brewers' 12-6 victory over the Cubs. "I think the league frowns at people throwing at other people's heads," Macha said after the Brewers lost 4-2 to the Cubs on Sunday. "I don't know if (baseball's vice president for discipline) Bob Watson has looked at it."
Braun came back to hit a home run off Dempster later in the game, and stared the pitcher down as he began to circle the bases. Braun did not address the issue after the game.
"If they threw at my head, I wouldn't be happy about it," Macha said.

momof5Yes that twitch sure is stupid!! I thought maybe he was shaking his head everytime to knock some smarts in it, but guess not or he wouldn't throw at the best hitters head!!!! He should know he would be answered! shame on him for throwing it! You Go BRAUN!!!Be as cocky as you want, even though I don't think he is. Keep up the good, great, work!!!

Love the home run glare! That was priceless. I am a bit leary about the fact that this pitch was accidental being these pitchers can aim that ball where they want it....but one never knows what could have happened, he certainly could have had a moment of weakness in his elbow, shoulder etc..... I don't think it was fair to make this a public statement without first investigating.

Teacher2b...I was wondering where you've been! How's school? Been to any games yet this year? We went opening day, Easter Sunday and on Friday night. Brauny's homer Friday night was aweeeesome!

Personally, I think it's kind of girly to say "Opps" instead of "Oops." I mean, come on, seriously, how can you not know how to spell oops?

donkeykong: WTH! I know I'm not the only one who refers to them as that--male or female. If I was referring to them at Ry-Ry or Princey-poo-poo, maybe your comment would have been just. WTH does that have to do with this anyhow?--other than it makes you feel like a big "man-y" to throw out personal attacks.
And...ahh...yeah...last year in THIS instance does matter since you were busting my chops over the stats I gave for Mr. Braun (is that more manly??) LAST year. Donkeykong? More like donkeyarse.

I recommend you rent 'Bull Durham' to learn more about baseball. When you hit a homer, you run. You do not stand there and admire it and you certainly do not run 'wings out' with your tongue hanging out to imitate arguably the greatest sports icon ever from your opponent's city. Dempster's pitch was likely not intended to hit Braun in the head, but it was definitely to send a message about crossing the line regarding unwritten rules of the game. I'm a huge baseball fan who loves the Brew Crew and despises the Cubbies. Our guy was out of line and that's just baseball.

It's too bad I missed that game. It sure sounds like with all the "know-its" the pitcher's mound must have been packed during this time. Would've been interesting to see.
Or they just have ESP.
Wouldn't be the first time a pitcher hit someone on purpose. Oops! Sorry! I mean by accident.

doc: you are right. 106 was last year. 105 was Mike Cameron (who was on 1st base). Picture it: September 28, 2008 with 2 outs (Princey struck out before Brauny stepped to the plate), late in the bottom of the 8th inning, Brewers 1, Cubs 1. Howry's first pitch...it's outta there deep int he left grandstand. RBIs 105 and 106--Mike Cameron and Ryan Braun. With the Marlins losing 30 minutes later, the Brewers, with help from CC (who pitched a perfect game) and Brauny, clinched the wildcard.
So, excuse the heck out of me for combining his 2 years and adding a few RBIs....I still basically know what I'm talking about--woman or not.

SOOOO SORRY. Maye you didn't notice the (I think) part of my post. Point basically remains, if not for Princey, Braun and now this year with Hart really stepping up...the most excitement and promise the Brewers would have shown since 1982, would have been, well, in 1982.
Professional atheletes are cocky in some way because when you exude that much confidence in your ability and don't let the other team see you sweat, it gets manipulated to make it easier for the "haters" to dislike you.
MANY people, in everyday life and outside of sports, mistake confidence for being cocky.
It is easy to call out a professional player when one hasn't played ball since Little League, I suppose.
Really? It is Soriano? Huh. I always thought it was Soriassno. Ooopsy! I still love Fukudome though! My husband thought it was a joke the first time he saw the name on jerseys. Nope. Not the smartest baseball fan as someone said. HAHA

I love how Brewer fans get so excited and cocky after a three game series in May. You can tell they must not enjoy that much success that they let this series ramp them up so much....it's almost as if they won the world series. I mean, your playing in your home park....shouldn't you win 2 out of 3 most times? Let's see how much your talking at the end of the season when your 10 games back. The Cubs are what, one game back and half their team is out with injuries? You took 2 out of 3 games at home with the Cubs playing rookies! Both corner infielders down with injuries, our best starting pitcher down with an injury, you missed Harden in the rotation.....the list goes on and on. Be happy you won, but you may want to tone it down a bit.
P.S. Dempster was not throwing at Braun intentionally!

high and tight pitches arent meant to hit. they are meant to send a message. braun got the message and sent his own back to dempster. well played mr braun, well played.
those 71 hrs were his first two seasons, which tied him w albert pujols for 4th most all time.

areyoulistening: prince and his agent scott boras whined their way into a 2 year contract that will pay him almost half of what brauny will collect in 8 years. at this pace, when arbitration eligible, braun would have collected WAAAAAAY more than 5 mill a year. he walks the walk, which in MY OPINION, allows him to talk the talk. can he buy and sell me over and over, along with all the finest green in the land. yes. you too im guessin. and i hope hes cocky about it the whole time.

Hey Kid3477_ Here is a great idea for ya, why not just go smoke some more green sticky stuff and stay out, that is unless you know what the heck you are talkin about! 8 years 45 million does not give a right to be COCKY it just means Braun could buy and sell you for years and years and years and years and still have lots of money left over! I agree that Dempster didn't throw at Braun (and I'm a Brewer Fan) It was a high and tight pitch that Braun leaned into to bunt and it GRAZED his helmet, NOT INTENTONAL at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!If you want to investigate a pitcher how about when Theriot was hit 2 innings later obviously INTENTIONALY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yup thats what I thought....... Hey everybody think before ya post!!!!!!!!!!!

you talk about misinformation then state, and repeat he DID NOT throw at his head. have you talked to ryan dempster or are you spreading info that may actually be mis-info?? braun signed for 8 years and 45 mill. if he keeps swingin this way thats a STEAL and he knows it. once he was arbitration eligible he could have gotten 10-15 mill/year. that, to me, is what gives braun the right to be cocky. in a world and game of greed, you have a guy with natural ability who also puts the work in on the field and excells at it signing for a FAIR dollar amount. just over 5 mill a year for a perennial MVP candidate?? staring down a pitcher if you hit a homer after he threw at yo head, intentional or not, IS NOT cocky, but you go ahead mr braun, especially when the chubs are in town...be cocky.

Momof5- Braun has only hit 79HR and has 231RBIs in his career, 106 last season! I think you may want to check your stats here first before sticking your misinformed foot in your mouth! As far as his right to be cocky he's only in his third season as A Major League player so calm down here. He's A LONG LONG LONG way from his, as you put it~ his "cocky carte blanche card". Good God these message boards are turning into fountains of misinformation!! I could only hope that the true fans of the game can actually see through all this garbage and realize that even though the Brewers and Cubs are rivals here they do actually have A mutual respect for each others clubs and Dempster did not, I REPEAT DID NOT intentionally throw at Brauns head in Saturdays game!

NL Rookie of the Year. Then 71 hrs in one season and 121 (I think) rbi's in your second season....not to mention hitting the hr that put the Brewers ahead of the Cubs (with Braun hitting in Mike Cameron to tie it) to clinch the wild card. Yep. Pretty sure that gives him the cocky carte blanche card--until his performance dictates otherwise!

Ryan Braun got hit in the head and later hit a bomb off of the same pitcher. Dempster is lucky he didn't get pummeled on the mound. Braun let his bat do the talking and stared him down. Braun is so clutch that he can be as cocky as he wants!

I agree that sometimes he can act cocky. However how would you feel if pitchers kept aiming at your head and upper body? If you compare Braun to Alfonso Sorona of the Cubs there is nothing wrong with what Braun does. At least Braun can not only hit but he hustles on EVERY play in left field.
