Whitecaps shut out Snappers

COMSTOCK PARK, MICH. — The West Michigan Whitecaps shutout the visting Beloit Snappers, 3-0, in Midwest League baseball here Wednesday.

Whitecaps’ starter Matt Hoffman (4-0) blanked the Snappers on four hits through seven innings. Jared Gayhart tossed one inning of hitless relief to seal the shutout.

West Michigan scored the only run it would need in the first inning on a double and and an RBI single off Beloit starter Daniel Berlind. Berlind (1-2) allowed three runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings to take the loss.
