Kyle Johnson took one for the team and sparked Janesville Parker High School to a thrilling 9-8 win over visiting Westosha Central in nonconference baseball here Wednesday.

The Vikings (5-9) scored twice in the bottom of the seventh to post the victory.

With Parker trailing 8-7, Johnson was hit by a pitch to open the seventh. He was sacrificed to second, took third on a wild pitch and scored the tying run on an infield error.

Parker then loaded the bases, and Tyler Tuebert singled to score freshman Jake Welch with the winning run.

Johnson not only started Parker’s last-chance rally, but pitched 2 2/3 innings of one-hit shutout relief to pick up the win.

“He pitched really well,” Parker coach Brian Martin said. “He had a rough outing against Middleton, but he came back strong.’’

Parker trailed 4-0 in the first inning, allowing four unearned runs. The Vikings were within 4-2 after three innings, but the Falcons scored four runs in the sixth for an 8-3 lead.

The Vikings bounced back, scoring four runs on four hits, including Johnson’s two-run double and Joe Allen’s RBI single to cut the deficit to 8-7.

“We changed things up a bit,” Martin said. “We just had a stretch of three bad games.’’

The Vikings had 12 hits, including three hits, including a double from Kelly Silha, and a 3-for-3 effort from Allen in his first varsity start.

Parker will travel to Madison West for Big Eight game at 5 p.m. Friday.
