Snappers overcome triple play, top Loons
BELOIT A triple play didn’t stand between the Beloit Snappers and a 5-1 victory over the visiting Great Lakes Loons to end a three-game losing streak in Midwest League baseball on Monday.
The Snappers held a 2-0 lead with the bases loaded and no outs in the first inning when Dominic De La Osa lined into a 3-1-5 triple play, first baseman Anthony Delmonico to catcher Matthew Wallach to third baseman Parker Dalton. The Snappers’ Evan Bigley was out at third base, and Jon Waltenbury was called out at first.
Beloit held a 5-0 lead before the Loons’ Kyle Russell connected for a solo home run off starter Brad Tippett in the seventh inning.
Tippett (2-0) allowed one run on five hits through seven innings to earn the victory. Reliever Danny Rondon kept the Loons in check on one hit through the final two innings.
