Rock County effort to reduce homelessness
ROCK COUNTY A Rock County coalition of agencies and community representatives are looking for solutions to the growing problem of homelessness.
Marc Perry, of Community Action of Rock and Walworth Counties, says they're sort of a subcommittee of the Homeless Intervention Task Force. They initially formed to deal with a large number of renters facing loss of power, and ultimately loss of shelter, due to the moratorium on utility power cutoffs.
Perry says as they negotiated with Alliant Energy in that case, they saw the increased number of families facing a similar fate and decided to look for solutions.
Tuesday the group decided on a short term goal of requesting funding from Janesville and Beloit. He hopes to get some of their Community Development Block Grant emergency stimulus money from the federal government.
The group will be meeting again next Tuesday as they seek resources for others in the county facing the loss of housing.
