A campaign to encourage Rock County residents to "buy local" is taking a hit during the economy, but organizers say it's still catching on.

Laura Baker owns VMarketing, the company that produces the buy local publication "1836". The downturn in the economy has forced "1836" into becoming an online-only publication. Baker says they won't be able to print the publication until they find businesses to help support it. In the meantime, she says businesses are enthusiastic about the campaign. She says it's like the movement to "go green": once people realize buying local helps their community, they're more willing to shop at locally-owned stores.
