Milton man guilty on poison charge in Alaska

— A Milton man has been sentenced to nine years and six months in federal prison after being found guilty on charges he laced his wife’s food with ulcer medication to force her to miscarry.

A military panel Saturday sentenced Airman 1st Class Scott Boie, 23. In addition to the prison time, Boie’s sentence included a dishonorable discharge, a forfeiture of pay and a reduction in rank to the lowest possible, Master Sgt. Demetrius Lester said.

Boie was found guilty Friday of attempting to kill an unborn child, Lester said.

He was, however, found not guilty of intentionally killing an unborn child, Lester said.

Boie previously had pleaded guilty to assault and theft charges, Lester said.

He is accused of poisoning his wife, Caylinn Boie, 21, sometime between April and June 2008 by lacing her food with Misoprostol, a drug used to treat stomach ulcers and also is known to cause miscarriages and induced abortions.

The court martial—similar to a civilian trial, but judged by members of the military—started Thursday at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Anchorage, Ala., according to KTTU Channel 2 of Anchorage.

According to KTTU:

Caylinn testified that when her husband found out she was pregnant, he asked her to get an abortion, and she said “No.” They fought, but Caylinn decided to keep the baby, she said.

Evidence showed Boie’s computer had a Google search for “at-home abortion methods.”

Boie’s best friend, Senior Airman Ryan Bollinger, testified Thursday that he covered up the poisoning and helped lace food with medication.

He received immunity for his testimony.

A week later, Caylinn miscarried. She thought it was from medical causes until a friend told her it wasn’t an accident.

Caylinn apparently taped a partial confession by her husband and reported him to military investigators.

She also taped him trying to convince her to say she wanted to induce the abortion, according to a tape played in court.

The defense tried to establish that Caylinn Boie had a history of troubled pregnancies, and that her smoking might have induced the miscarriage.

Boie also is accused of stealing and burning a 1990 Nissan truck in April 2008, according to the Air Force statement.

Boie graduated from Milton High School in 2004 and completed basic training in 2005, according to Janesville Gazette archives.

tj24, you are right. There is probably no way to tell precisely how the baby died. I was assuming the drug caused the death. If it indeed did, then I believe he is no more guilty than a doctor/nurse performing an abortion. And, yes there are abortions performed without the fathers consent or knowledge.

I really do get what you are saying. I do NOT think he made the right choice and I am angry that he made that decision. However, no where in the article says that his poisoning is what actually caused the miscarriage. If you'll look his charges were changed.

If you knew anything about the military, you would know that they are normally disciplined much more harsh than the civilian world for any number of things you'd think are personal things. So to say he got an easy sentence is ridiculous.

Secondly, if we are going to debate abortions and rights and what not, let's throw in the aspect that just *maybe* she got pregnant on purpose against his wishes.

My point is that you really JUST do not know the whole story. You can't. And it's stupid to sit here and say how nasty he is, or any other comment when there are no real facts in this article.

Hi Thekid3477,
I didn't fail to realize that he did it against her wishes or knowledge, and for that it is just another reason this is a horrible crime. She became a victim too. And yes, I am pro life. But, if you take away the fact that the mother did not consent or have knowledge, it IS the same thing that doctors and nurses do everyday. They murder babies who don't have a voice or any way to defend themselves. If you are prochoice then you should only be outraged that the mother wasn't informed. I am outraged by both.

cty this is not what abortion drs and nurses do every day. women CHOOSE to go to the dr. and those drs use legal safe ways to abort the baby. the idiot in this story took that choice away from her by POISON. big diff an yer fail to see that cuz of your opinion on abortions...which this story is not.

I understand why people are upset, saying that this is the same thing that abortion doctors do every day, but you can't look at it from that angle, not in this case.

He asked her to get an abortion, and she said no. She made it clear to him that she would NOT end her child's life. When he took it into his own hands, WITHOUT HER CONSENT, that is what made it an even more atrocious act. With abortion, it is a CHOICE made by a person, not something done by sneaking medication into food.

I used to be good friends with the husband in this case...I'm still shocked and horrified at what he did. When I knew him, I never would have thought he was capable of such a crime, but people obviously change, and there were obviously things I didn't know about him. I hope he regrets what he did and understands how his actions have hurt not only his wife and their child, but his family, as well. He deserves the punishment coming to him (if not a harsher one).

cty:I agree and where is the outrage for this heinous act(abortion)??? It is a child as well! but people do it the name of CHOICE! what a farce! It is still murder and it takes the life of the child willingly! Just because it is legal doesn't make it any more palatable!
God forgive us!!

I know this sounds crazy, but think about it. This is the same thing that abortion doctors and nurses are doing every day.

TJ24....nothing in their home life could condone or excuse a man for secretly poisoning his wife in order to kill the baby she was carrying.

The Military is known for light sentencing he should have been sentenced to at least 40 years hard labor.

I think everyone jumps to conclusions a little bit too fast. I don't condone what he did, I don't know him at all, but who knows what was going on in their life. Maybe she's a little crazy and can't take care of a baby, maybe they agreed they wouldn't have kids, whatever. The point being you just don't know them, and the only things being said are hurtful crappy things.

And no honorable solider I know joined to go kill people. That was an out of line biased comment.

There is so much of this going on all over the world it is sad and makes me sick to my stomach, you are right why are all these people getting married and having families when they kill their loved ones. There was a story today on fox news a husband gunned his wife, their 5 month old and 7 year old down on the front yard. This is not even something people are trying cover up doing they are now doing it right out in the open.

Seriously messed up! This man should have never gotten married, and should have just volunteered to go to Iraq if all he wanted to do was kill. There are many over there that are deserving of this cruelty, not a tiny baby and a mother. I would hate to live with his conscience never really knowing if it was him or not who killed that little baby in his wife's stomach! That would be worse to live with than ANY amount of time in prison, in my opinion.
