Tennis teams fall
The Janesville Craig and Parker high school tennis teams were shut out in Big Eight Conference matches Thursday.
Parker fell at Verona, 7-0, to fall to 1-3 in the Big Eight and 5-5 overall.
“Verona doubles is awfully tough,” Parker coach Mike Fuhrmann said. “We’re playing pretty well.”
Fuhrmann said Nick Gilbank returned to the team after missing three matches with an elbow injury. Gilbank lost a close match at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-4.
“Jason Knutson played the best match I’ve seen him play in the four years I’ve had him,” Fuhrmann said. “We have things to be proud of.”
Knutson lost at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-4.

n Memorial 7, Craig 0—The Spartans didn’t drop a set in picking up the Big Eight Conference win.
“We are pretty young, and hopefully, we learned a good lesson today,” Craig High coach Gary Hallowell said. “Memorial hits the ball hard and a has a nice team.
“I was real happy with the way Derek Master played for us. He’s only a freshman, and he continues to work hard and soak up as much as he can to get better.”
Craig (2-2 in the Big Eight) will host Milton, Burlington and Sauk Prairie in a quadrangular on Saturday at Palmer Park.
