WCLO's Steve Benton reports on the death of a prominent Janesville attorney

RSS

— George K. Steil Sr., 84, a longtime Janesville attorney and former University of Wisconsin regent, died Sunday at home after complications from prostate cancer.

Steil—a member of the Brennan, Steil & Basting law firm—served on many state associations and committees. In 1990, he was appointed to the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents and served as president from 1992-1994.

He was elected president of the State Bar of Wisconsin in 1976 and was appointed by the Wisconsin Supreme Court to the Wisconsin Board of Attorneys Professional Responsibility, which administered the state’s lawyer disciplinary system.

The Janesville Gazette will publish a profile story about Steil on Tuesday.
