— It didn’t take Catie O’Leary long to go from basketball to soccer mode.

The Janesville Parker High senior and three-time Big Eight Conference basketball Player of the Year scored four goals and added an assist to lead the Vikings to a 7-1 nonconference win over Burlington in the season opener.

Burlington scored early to take a 1-0 lead, but the Vikings responded with three first-half goals to take control.

“It was a good start,” Parker first-year coach Amy Wargowsky said. “We completed our passes and found whoever was open.

“Catie did a great job finishing, and I really thought everybody played well.”

With her team leading 3-1, O’Leary scored the first three goals of the second half. Sam Witek, Michelle Kortyna and Nicole Strieker also scored for the Vikings.

Parker will host three nonconference games next week starting with Oregon on Tuesday night.
