Edgerton School District plans longer school days
EDGERTON The Edgerton School District will have longer school days for the rest of the year instead of making up one of its snow days.
The district cancelled school four times because of cold and snow but only had two snow days built into its schedule. It will make up one of the days by adding a day to the end of the school year. The last day of school now will be Friday, June 12.
The district and teachers union agreed to make up the second day by adding 10 minutes to the end of each school day from April 1 to June 12, according to a memo from Superintendent Norm Fjelstad. Principals are responsible for schedule revisions and alerting parents to the change, the memo said.

Again, they must have had three days built in because they are only making up one contact day with students. You can not make up a contact day with students by adding up minutes.

Read the article closer justhype, it says it will add 1 more day to the school year on Friday, June 12. And then add 10 min. to everyday to make up for the other one. that makes 2 snow days built in and 2 days to make up.

They must have had three days built in to their calendar, not two, if they only are making up one day. They must be making up minutes because the loss of 3 snow days puts them short of the requiered minutes.

Before everyone from Janesville gets up in arms about why they have to make up their days instead of just adding minutes, here is why. State law requires so many contact days per school year and so many minutes of instruction. Janesville's school day is set up so missing a snow day will not put them in jeopardy of being short of minutes. But, if there is more than one snow day, Janesville is short of contact days with students. Therefore, Janesville has to make up all snow days but one, but not minutes.
