— The race for Lake Geneva District 1 alderman features an incumbent, who is completing his second term in office, and a veteran of local government who most recently served as mayor.

Sheldon O. Shepstone

Age: 80

Address: 527 Madison St., Lake Geneva.

Job: School bus driver for Dousman Transport in Lake Geneva; former detective at the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office.

Education: Graduate of Lake Geneva High School.

Community service: None.

Elected posts: Lake Geneva mayor, 2004-08; Lake Geneva alderman for more than 25 years, 1970-2004; Walworth County Board supervisor, 1996-2002.

Major campaign issue: “Financial constraints from the state and possibly from the economy could affect the city of Lake Geneva. With my years of knowledge and experience as finance and personnel committee chairman, I will work to prevent a reduction of services and personnel funded by your property taxes.”

Gary Dunham (I)

Age: 45

Address: 1251 Wisconsin St., Lake Geneva.

Job: Lender at Peoples Bank in Elkhorn.

Education: Bachelor of Business Administration degree and Master of Business Administration degree in finance from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.

Community service: Member of the Lake Geneva Plan Commission, 1998-present; member of the Geneva Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

Elected posts: Lake Geneva alderman, 2005-present.

Major campaign issues: “To continue to do what’s necessary to conservatively manage the city’s finances and build up the city’s cash reserves … and to get the council to focus on working toward common goals and not stagnating on issues on which we don’t see eye to eye.”
