Union Pacific shuts down Janesville bridge
Podcast Episode
JANESVILLE The train bridge over the Rock River, just west of the Monteray Bridge, is temporarily shut down while engineers check it for structural integrity.
A Union Pacific employee noticed some bent rail on the bridge March 18th and made the decision to close that section of track.
Janesville city officials were asked to slow the water through the dam on Friday so divers could check the bridge. Some water spilling out of the mill pond, because of the dam adjustments, was a concern Friday.
Union Pacific spokesman, Mark Davis, says engineers should be able to determine the extent of the problem, and recommend appropriate actions, by Monday. Davis says they've contacted the Wisconsin and Southern Railroad to help service customers on the side of the river they can't get to because of the problem.
