Madison Memorial High School’s boys basketball team is set for a sixth straight appearance in the WIAA Division 1 state tournament.

The top-ranked Spartans breezed past the host Warriors, 72-49, Saturday night in the championship game of the Waunakee Sectional.

Memorial (23-1), the state runner-up to Wauwatosa East last year, plays Germantown (21-2) at 6:35 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals at the Kohl Center in Madision.

The six-time Big Eight champions took a 20-9 first-quarter lead over Waunakee (20-4) and were never threatened.

Vander Blue led Memorial with 20 points. Tre Creamer and Junior Lomomba scored 13 apiece for the Spartans, and Jeronne Maymon added 10.

Memorial has been in four of the last five state title games. The Spartans won the 2005 championship and were runners-up Milwaukee King in 2004 and to Oshkosh West in 2006.
