Kennedy Elementary School principal to retire
JANESVILLE A longtime Janesville elementary school principal is retiring.
The district announced Friday that Niel Bender, principal of Kennedy Elementary School, will retire at the end of the school year.
Bender was principal of Madison Elementary School for 13 years before he was appointed to head Kennedy School when it opened in 1999.
Before he came to Janesville, Bender was principal of Powers Elementary School in the Beloit-Turner School District.
Steve Salerno, director of human and administrative services, said he plans to meet with Kennedy staff and parents to discuss the process for replacing Bender and the attributes they would like to see in their new principal.
The school district’s news release praised Bender’s professional skills and commitment to students.
“His leadership will be a loss for the district,” said Karen Schulte, interim superintendent.

Ah...a long time ago I worked with Mr. Bender. He will be missed. His committment to the kids under him was an awesome thing to watch and learn from. Good job, Mr. Bender and thank you.

My daughter is in 1st grade at Kennedy. Mr. Bender will be missed terribly!! I have watched him interact with students many times and I am always impressed with what I see. You can see his commitment and dedication to those kids! It will be hard to fill his shoes.
Best wishes to you Neil!! You've done a great job!
