— The Janesville manufacturer Hufcor Inc. said Friday it is eliminating 100 jobs in the midst of the recession and declining orders.

Hufcor makes folding doors, partitions and portable walls, which are used in office buildings, convention centers, schools, hotels and churches.

The company provided a notice to the state Department of Workforce Development saying the cuts will be made May 12 and are expected to be permanent.

sorry to hear about this. I know a few people that work there. If anyone is looking for a job I saw that Generac was hiring- probably not a real high paying job but it is something.

I hope this is the end of the dismal news. Lab Safety has been very quite over the past few weeks. The "integration news" on the web states that the 300-400 jobs lost between JVL and Chicago will be determined in the next few weeks.

Sorry to all the Hufcor folks. I wonder if our city officials are trying to do anything to stop the bleeding? They sure are spending enough time on the ice arena. I hope the business development employees have a pulse on what is going on (or what may be coming or going in the future).

Journalism 101 - not mentioning the firm name in the title gets more people to read the article to find out which business it is.

I almost didn't see this story. Not to mention, is that hard to say "Hufcor" in the title? The headline makes it sound like a law firm or something. The good news is that there aren't too many places in Janesville left that can lay off.

SarahB1 -Don't feel that way..A person is much more than what they do for money and their "paid" employment..People often find their greatest calling during long times of "unemployment"...Heads up....

Hufcor is (or has been) THE leading room partition manufacturer in the world. This is a global recession so it hurts both domestic and export production.
.
carlitosway, I understand your frustration at rules that apply only to some companies, but the TAA funds were specifically created to offset job losses due to foreign competition. That doesn't apply here, so I would not normally expect Hufcor employees to qualify.
.
Nevertheless, the TAA rules were modified as part of the stimulus bill, so it's possible that there could be a new source of funding. The new rules have not been finalized yet. See the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (the stimulus bill), ss. 1801-1858.

I pray all those affected are able to find a way the succeed despite this huge setback. I understand losing jobs, it's not easy and it is depressing. There is hope!

Will Hufcor qualify for TAA after unemployement as they are a manufacturer and the lay-off is based on domestic troubles not compitition. Or will they be treated as LSI employees and get the shaft from the stae as to rules that only seem to apply to certain companies.

Didn't the webmaster proof the article before posting? I'm sure he/she knew how to spell Hufcor.

More disappointing news for Janesville.

This is another blow to the economy and this one hits home as I am an employee there and will most likely be affected. as far as the spelling in here the main reason for this comment section IMO is for opinions on articles and to have people looking for errors in spelling and punctuation is ignorant and those that do maybe should go grade papers a to day-care if it is such an issue. Not all people in the world are perfect and some don't mind if others make a harmless mistake so what! it is "nun ya biznizz" it is theirs.

We've corrected the spelling. And, I've informed the Associated Press in Milwaukee. -- Gazette reporter Frank Schultz (someone who has known how to spell Hufcor for about 18 years)

The business has been in Janesville for only 109 years. I guess nobody paid attention to how they spell it. If the AP reported it, it must be right........details, details, details.
