Second-ranked Benton wins at Craig; top-ranked Randolph falls
Benton High made itself at home again at Janesville Craig, beating Burlington Catholic Central on the Cougars’ court for the second straight year.
While the second-ranked Zephrys were notching a 62-51 victory in their WIAA Division 4 boys basketball sectional semifinal game Thursday night, a major surprise came out of Beaver Dam—Sheboygan Christian over top-rated Randolph, 45-44.
That means there will not be a sectional final matchup between Benton and seven-time state champion Randolph, coached by Benton graduate Bob Haffele, for the third straight year. Instead, the Zephyrs (22-2) take on fourth-ranked Sheboygan Christian (22-1) at 7 p.m. Saturday at Fort Atkinson, with both bidding for their first state tournament berth.
Benton used a 12-2 advantage in the fourth quarter to leave Burlington Central (14-9) behind. Central held Benton’s Hendricks twins, 6-1 seniors Jordan and Connor, to a combined 13 points, but 5-11 senior guard Kane Hoffman sparked the Zephyrs with a season-high 19 points.
