— Police were searching this morning for a 20-year-old Janesville man suspected of jumping into the frigid waters of the Rock River early today.

Police are concerned about the man’s mental status, but he also is wanted in connection with a February domestic battery, Lt. John Olsen said.

Police and fire personnel were called to the Racine Street bridge area at 4:35 a.m. after receiving a report of a person jumping into the Rock River, according to spokeswoman at the Rock County Communications Center.

People who were with the man at a gathering in a South Main Street home told police they saw the man jumped into the river and float downstream before climbing out.

"He got back out on his own, took his (wet) clothes off, and that’s the last they saw him," Olsen said.

The man had superficially cut his own neck before he left the South Main Street house, Olsen said.
