Janesville School District tries new way to fill positions
The Janesville School Board is mulling over its budget options and staffing plans.
Commissioner Bill Sodemann says if positions aren't being filled when someone retires, perhaps the positions should have been cut in the past. He wants the school district to examine what it needs to run the educational office properly.
The School Board discussed the district's budget and staffing plans Tuesday. A budget study session is scheduled March 30, the staffing plan is scheduled for adoption April 14th, and layoff notices expected May 1.
Director of Administration and Human Services Steve Salerno told the board the district is looking at specific positions, and where they can help people transition into other areas in which they have expertise.
He says the district wants to minimize layoffs as much as possible.
