— Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., on Monday received the National Association of Manufacturers Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence.

The award honors federal lawmakers whose voting records have consistently supported manufacturing in America, according to the organization.

“Representative Ryan has demonstrated a true understanding of manufacturing’s key role in the strength of the American economy and has acted to maintain and create manufacturing jobs,” John Engler, National Association of Manufacturers president and chief executive officer, said from Washington, D.C.

The award is given to members of Congress who support key manufacturing votes 70 percent or more of the time, as determined by an advisory committee composed of National Association of Manufacturers members from small and large manufacturers.

Ryan’s National Association of Manufacturers voting record was 80 percent in the 110th Congress. He was one of 43 senators and 181 representatives who earned the award. Members of Congress are notified in advance when an upcoming vote has been designated a “key vote” by the National Association of Manufacturers.

Voting records for members of Congress—including those who scored 70 percent or better to earn the National Association of Manufacturers Award—are available at www.nam.org/votingrecord.

Since of the 538 representatives in Congress there were 224 "winners" of this award, perhaps it would be better reporting and equally informative and useful news to look at why the other 314 in Congress didn't bow down to the manufacturing lobby interests. Just what was contained in those "key" votes?
