The Janesville Fire Department has a new life saving tool.
Mercy Health System has donated five portable EKG units, which Deputy Fire Chief Gerry Luiting says will reduce the time of treatment for some heart patients. The units can be used in the field to transmit information about the patient's heart back to doctors. Dr. Gene Gulliver with Mercy says the equipment can help prepare treatment for patients before they arrive at the hospital.
He says the time saved can translate into saved lives.
