WCLO's Steve Benton reports on possible new life for the Beloit casino application

RSS

— Beloit and tribal leaders are hoping the Obama administration will breath new life into their application for an off reservation casino in Beloit.

Officials in the last administration changed the application criteria and then denied the application just months before President George W. Bush left office.

Beloit City Manager, Larry Arft, says they've already had two meetings with officials in the Department of the Interior since January. While there is no guarantee the application will be revived, the Department of the Interior representatives were clearly interested in the case. Any decision may depend on the person to be appointed as Secretary of Indian Affairs.

Want attention for this from the feds? Start using the phrase "shovel ready" whenever mentioning it in Washington.

I have friends who will be adversely affected by this. I don't gamble and have no interest in this casino except as a potential employer. If it ever gets built, I don't expect to ever go there unless its related to some kind of employment.

Remember, the magic words are "shovel ready."
