WCLO's Steve Benton reports on ridership numbers for the JTS in 2008

RSS

— The numbers for ridership on the Janesville Transit System were up, overall, for 2008.

Director Dave Mumma, says some of the routes had huge increases, like the Beloit / Janesville express. He says ridership on that route hit a new high at over 65,000. He says in December alone, the number of passengers going to Blackhawk Technical College jumped 100%.

There were a few drops in ridership, including the special student routes. Mumma speculates laid off parents may be driving their kids to school.

i would love to see a breakdown of the ridership. school kids, etc. how much does it cost per rider to have the busses and maintain them. throwing out a number of 65,000 for an entire year tells a person nothing. what is a good year, what are the highs and lows. how about some stats that can be put together by the public. is there a web sight where we can get this info and other info like it pertaining to the city?
