Red Hawks finish fifth at state
WISCONSIN RAPIDS — Milton High earned fifth-place finish in the WIAA State Team Gymnastics meet Saturday.
Sophomore Carleigh Felstead led the Red Hawks to an overall score of 136.0833. Whitefish Bay earned the team title with a score of 141.7667.
“We had just one senior, but we looked like a pretty experienced team out there,” Milton coach Kristine Farnsworth said. “Finishing fifth was one of our goals and we did it.’’
The fifth-place finish put Milton ahead of seventh-place Southwestern/Cuba City, which edged Milton for the Platteville sectional title.
Felstead had a top score for the Red Hawks in every event. She recorded a 9.367 in the uneven parallel bars, a 9.133 in the floor exercise, a 8.95 in the balance beam and a 8.933 in the vault.
Joining Felstead at the team state meet were sophomores Cassie Cropp, Alexandra Burki, Anna Bailey, and senior Beth Beyer. Cropp finished 13th in the balance beam in the individual state meet Friday.
Hartland Arrowhead earn the state championship in Division 1 with 142.0333 points.

Well, better late than never! It's about time you give the Red Hawk gymanstics team the recognition they deserve. I find it disgraceful that you'll be the first to print anything negative that happens in the Milton School District, but rarely the accomplishments of these hardworking kids. Shame on you! Next season, I hope you'll consider giving Milton gymnastics the press they should have from one of their local papers- it means a lot to not only them, but the Milton community as well.
