Beloit knocks off Lake Geneva Badger

Beloit Memorial High School’s boys basketball team had just enough Saturday afternoon to advance to the WIAA Division 1 sectional.


The top-seeded Purple Knights made six of seven free throws down the stretch to down visiting Lake Geneva Badger, 63-58, in a regional final at Barkin Arena.


That ended Badger’s bid for a second straight trip to the state tournament and set up Beloit (16-5) for a sectional semifinal game against Kenosha Tremper (17-5) at 6 p.m. Friday at Janesville Craig.


Sharod Stone scored 21 points and Jahlil Smith added 20 as the Purple Knights never let the Badgers (12-10) get closer than three points in the final minutes.

Yamil Baccaliao led sixth-ranked East (19-3) with 15 points, while teammate DeAndre Galligan matched Mason’s 14 points.


Sam Marshall led the Cardinals (9-13) with 14 points.
