Amid troubling economic news, a furniture store announces intentions to open a franchise in Janesville.

Gale Price, manager of building and development services for the city, says city staff members have been working with a franchisee hoping to open a Slumberland Furniture store in the former Walmart building. Price says the city received a building permit application and plans on Tuesday. He says the new store will be approximately 30,000 square feet, using the vestibule of the former Walmart store. He says the store has been looking at Janesville for several years, but had not found a suitable location. Price says he's not aware of a timeline for the store's opening. Given typical construction timelines, he says it should open this summer.

Cool. Slumberland is a nice, mid-priced furniture store.
