Turner edges Parkview; Cubans down Clinton

Mike Jacobs came through when Beloit Turner High School’s boys basketball team needed him the most.

Jacobs made six of eight free throws in the final quarter to help the Trojans hold off visiting Orfordville Parkview, 50-46, in a WIAA Division 3 regional quarterfinal game Tuesday night.

Turner (11-10) plays at No. 2-rated Cuba City (20-1) on Thursday in a regional semifinal. The winner battles Darlington (13-8) or New Glarus (16-5) at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Evansville for a berth in the Baraboo Sectional.

Jacobs finished with eight of his 16 points in the fourth quarter as the Trojans rallied after falling behind briefly in the final period.

Jay Nance hit three three-pointers in the final quarter to help Parkview gain the lead.

Jordan Conway added 13 points for Turner. Nick Melton had 15 points and Sean Woodworth had 10 for Parkview (7-14).

n Cuba City 78, Clinton 55—Evan Richard scored a game-high 26 points as the second-ranked Cubans (20-1) knocked off the Cougars (5-16) to earn a spot in Thursday’s regional title game against Beloit Turner.

Cuba City put the game away with a 43-22 run during the middle two quarters.

Joe Schweigert added 17 for the Cubans. Justin Gunderson led Clinton with 16 points, and Austin DeLong added 13.

n Cambridge 71, Palmyra-Eagle 37—Sam Jeffery scored 20 points, including 13 in the first half, to lead Cambridge past visiting Palmyra-Eagle in a Division 3 regional opener.

The Bluejays (11-10) host Deerfield (13-8) on Thursday in a regional semifinal game that pairs into the West Allis Central Sectional.

Cambridge had a 36-11 halftime lead over Palmyra-Eagle (3-18).

Tony Dedie added 14 points for the Bluejays. Chris McMillan had 16 points for Palmyra-Eagle.
