Pregont to walk-on at Iowa
JoJo Pregont is officially a Hawkeye.
The Janesville Craig High senior and Associated Press second-team all-state selection at wide receiver is going to play football at the University of Iowa. The 6-foot-6, 210-pound Pregont was invited as a preferred walk-on by coach Kirk Ferentz and the Iowa football staff.
As a preferred walk-on, Pregont will report to the team in August for the first day of practice, but can’t participate in any on-school activities until then.
Pregont narrowed his collegiate choices to Iowa and the University of Wisconsin, but decided on the Hawkeyes after taking his official campus visit.
“It really wasn’t that hard of a decision,” Pregont said of choosing Iowa. “I like the fact that it’s a little bit farther from home, and I really enjoyed my college visit when I went there.”
Pregont expects to come into camp as a wide receiver, but will likely move to the tight end position after a couple of years in the weight room.
“That’s what they told me,” Pregont said. “I’m just excited about the chance to play for a great program.”
As a senior, Pregont set school records with 58 receptions for 867 yards and 11 touchdowns. In Craig High’s Division 1 playoff loss to Kenosha Tremper, Pregont had 10 catches for 174 yards and three touchdowns. He finished his career as the school’s all-time leader with 116 receptions for 1,996 yards and 22 touchdowns.
