— Beloit College women’s basketball standout Christine Brown was named the Midwest Conference player of the year, the conference announced Tuesday.

A senior from Ruidoso, New Mexico, Brown received all-conference recognition for the third time. Also, Buccaneers’ junior Mary Parker was named to all-Midwest Conference first team.

Brown led the Bucs in scoring and rebounding, scoring 13 points and collecting nine rebounds a game. She finished eighth in conference scoring, second in rebounding, fifth in field goal percentage and had seven double-doubles.

Brown became the 13th member of the Bucs’ 1,000 Point Club against Carroll University on Feb. 11, and finished with 1,041 career points, ranking her ninth. She finished as the No. 2 rebounder of all time with 782, just behind Ann Sackett’s 801.

Parker was Beloit’s second-leading scorer at 10.2 and second leading rebounder at 6.3. Parker led the team in assists with 4.1.

Parker will enter her senior season with 704 career points, 450 rebounds, 295 assists and 190 steals.

Beloit enjoyed its best season in more than 10 years. The Bucs finished 15-9 overall, their most wins since 1997-98.
