WCLO's Steve Benton reports on plan to close visitor centers

RSS

State officials are considering closing the tourist information areas at all eight visitor centers as a way to save money.

Visit Beloit Director Martha Mitchell doesn't consider it a good idea. She says the Beloit Visitor's Center is the busiest of all, located on the border. Mitchell says this could be costly for the state, considering the hundreds-of-thousands of visitors which come through Rock county.

Volunteers will be considered to fill the void if the state cuts back on personnel.

Why in the world would the state even consider closing the visitor centers. Next they will close the state parks. Here In Arkansas we have very active visitor centers and state parks that have no entry fee. Tourists feel very welcomed.
