The Beloit City Council holds a public hearing Monday before authorizing the city manager to apply for flood relief funds.

The requested $500,000 is part of the Community Development Block Grant flood assistance program. Assistant City Manager Steve Gregg says the money would go toward shoreline stabilization downtown, and raising Shirland Avenue. The low-lying part of Shirland flooded near the river last summer, and leveling the street near the bridge could prevent future flooding.

The public hearing is at the council's regular Monday meeting.
