In a family way
“You saw the press conference?”
“Of course I saw the press conference. Very strange.”
“Very strange. And you read the e-mails?”
“Of course I read the e-mails. How could you not read the e-mails?”
“Absolutely.”
“Very strange.”
“Very strange. So he’s cooked, right?”
“Absolutely cooked. It’s not just the affair, or even his wife kicking him out—it’s all the other stuff. All the weirdness.”
“The Appalachian Trail.”
“The Appalachian Trail.”
“And disappearing! You can’t just disappear like that when you’re running a state. It’s…”
“Weird.”
“Totally weird. So he’s cooked.”
“Absolutely.”
“You think there’s more?”
“More?”
“You think we got the whole story?”
“Hard to say. Do we ever get the whole story?”
“Probably not. But we got enough of the story.”
“Definitely.”
“And he’s cooked.”
“Absolutely.”
“So how did they do it?”
“Excuse me?”
“How did they do it to him?”
“How did who do it to him?”
“The gays. How did they wreck his marriage?”
“I don’t think they wrecked his marriage.”
“Of course they wrecked his marriage! That’s what they do—first they threaten marriages, and then they wreck them.”
“It wasn’t the woman in Argentina?”
“She might have been part of it. She wasn’t all of it.”
“She wasn’t?”
“Not unless she was gay. Only gays wreck marriages—that’s what they say.”
“Gays say that?”
“Gays don’t say that. Other people say that. Family-values people say that.”
“About gays.”
“About gays. They say it all the time: If there’s one thing that wrecks marriages, it’s gays.”
“How?”
“How?”
“How do they wreck marriages? Did they introduce him to the woman in Argentina?”
“He didn’t mention that.”
“Did they arrange for him to visit her there?”
“He didn’t mention that.”
“Did they make him write those steamy e-mails?”
“He didn’t mention that either.”
“So how did they wreck his marriage?”
“I haven’t figured that out yet.”
“He didn’t wreck his own marriage?”
“That’s not how it works.”
“Gays wreck marriages.”
“That’s what they say.”
“Just by being gay?”
“By being gay. By acting gay. By wanting to get married to someone else who’s gay.”
“Gays wreck marriages by wanting to get married?”
“Not their own marriages. Regular marriages.”
“Man and woman marriages.”
“Exactly.”
“The institution of marriage.”
“Exactly.”
“They wreck that.”
“That’s what they say.”
“And not because he had the hots for some woman in Argentina?”
“She might have been part of it. She wasn’t all of it.”
“He’s still cooked, though.”
“Absolutely.”
“Very strange.”
“Very strange.”

I cannot understand why an author would write about something he wasn't interested in writing about at the time he was going to write anything...????? an author wants to write about his view at that time, or am i wrong? Do Publishers command authors to ONLY write the Publishers point of view.? Someone needs to "get off their high horse" and see that the Constitution gives all United States of America citizens "free choice".

Yea but how about your opinion on the content of this article?

Not only your private? Are you are saying not only the US soldier killed?
I never said Rick has to do anything. I said his points are generally left leaning; ideologically based. An example of that was the story he wrote and the one he did not write. His choice of what to cover or not displays a hypocrisy; not unlike ones stated by a previous poster on conservatives.

RAF so your point is if he says anything about one person being murdered that is connected to an issue he writes about, he also has to devote equal time and effort into each and every other murder. Not only your private but also any other murder that is deemed to be important?
.
Does this apply to other topics in addition to murder? If he were to write a piece about the Janesville rapist would he also then need to write pieces about all other rapists in your opinion?

but hypocrisy does't make one automatically wrong. If a murder says that murder is wrong, it doesn't make murder right.
People can know what is right and still do wrong.
vice versa. People can do wrong and still know what is right - in fact, most do.
All that said, I will concede that actions can either support or detract from statements.

Hypocrisy and politicians are hardly oxymoronic.
Your listed examples of people (in your judgment, hypocrites) are hardly within then span of recent months. To decry that only one area (political spectrum) has problems with hypocrisy is failing to see politicians and those around politicians for what they are; do as I say not as I do type of people. There is nothing more blatantly hypocritical than passing laws that you yourself are exempt from.
That is the problem I have with “strange” Rick. One of his recent columns, posted ~12 days after the murder of a doctor turned into a diatribe against people who did not like what he did. Yet in the same time span he was silent on the murder of an American solider in our country shot by a person from the FBI watch list. If murder is murder, why write about the killing of the doctor and not the solider? For "strange" Rick it is simple; it is more about political leanings than consistency…how hypocritical is that?

RAF,
How about comment at my summary?
Do you agree the family value conservatives have had shown their share of hypocricy in recent months?

"Avoid"? I stated I have read his left leaning comments; what is there to discuss? I echoed his very own last words of the article and you somehow got the impression I needed it explained to me.
If you care to discuss it ask a question. To this point you have only asked if "see" or "understand" his point. His point is a left leaning attempt at sarcasm.

Oh, and wrong number three. I never stated this did I? I said, "I don't assume others need things explained to them."
I state my opinion very regularly. But I don't regularly make the assumption that you did.

Looks like you are wrong twice. One, assuming I don't understand "strange" Rick for what/who he is and two for assuming you need to explain to me what he said.
I will be glad to ask you in the future for advice on understanding what an author meant by his writing if that would make you feel better.

RAF
.
Anyone who knows your posting would be safe to assume a "Speaking of very strange...here's Rick!" from you may mean you missed the point.
.
I made a safe assumption that if all you got from this article is Rick = strange that you missed the point.
.
Perhaps I was wrong, but I maintain, it was a safe assumption given your track record.
.
Beyond the strange, do you see, or understand his point?
.
Oh, and don't make the claim that you don't explain things to others. You talk down to people on this board all the time. You often assume because someone disgrees they don't understand.

See whythink, Rick is always strange. I have read many of his left leaning comments posted on this paper's site, huff post, and his own site. I do understand him.
Unlike you, I don't assume others need things explained to them.
As I said, speaking of very strange, here is Rick, and also it looks like whythink; still a perfect name for you.

Brillant point!
.
Yeah, a bit strange but that was his point.
.
The argument that gay marriage will wreck straight marriage is strange that is why he wrote this article in a "strange" way.
.
See RAF, you need a sense of humor and some outside the box thinking to understand Rick. He doesn't just spell it out for you, he attempts to make you think for yourself.
.
Another example of the "family values", conservative family values proving the hypocricy and weirdness of their arguments.
.
Gay marriage destroys straight traditional marriage.
.
Abstinence only education works.(young Ms. Palin)
.
Prison for any illegal drug users (Rush).
.
etc...
.
The conservative family values people attempt to blame others and claim their way is best yet time and time again it fails, yet I should follow because they say it is best.
.
Maybe, just maybe they will get off their high horse and begin to consider other options.
.
Perhaps no option will work, after all we are human and prone to sin but that is the difference, the family value people don't want to look at other options because they still believe they are better, their way it better and if everyone did as they say, not as they do the world would be better.
.
See RAF, Rick could have written that but it would have been much more boring and perhaps more offensive. If you think for a minute, you will see that was some of his point.
.
