DELAVAN Members of one Delavan church want to use their talents to help kids discover their own potential.
The United Church of Christ Congregational, 123 Washington St., Delavan, will host its first fine arts day camp from July 27 to 31 at the church.
The church has had a strong foundation in music, and many members are gifted in the fine arts, church member Sharon Munson said.
With public school budgets tighter than ever, church members wanted to do something to support the fine arts community, Munson said.
"This is where we felt there was a need in Walworth County," Munson said.
The camp will have a multicultural theme peppered with food and art styles from around the world. The week will end in a performance at the band shell in Phoenix Park, Munson said.
"People at our church have started to knock their socks off," Munson said of the preparations for the camp.
Professionals will teach classes in music, visual arts, dance and drama, Munson said. In the afternoons, students will sign up for an extra class in the artistic form that most interests them, she said.
At the end of the day, everyone will meet to watch an additional demonstration from professional artists, Munson said.
"It's like they'll have kind of a little concert at the end of the day," Munson said. "They'll will get demonstrations, not from their teachers but from somebody over and above," Munson said.
The camp will be non-denominational, Munson said.
