Ninth-inning grand slam caps River Bandits’ rally
BELOIT Osvaldo Morales hit a grand slam with two outs in the top of the ninth inning Sunday to lift the Quad Cities River Bandits to a 6-4 win over the Beloit Snappers in Midwest League baseball at Pohlman Field.
Beloit (27-43) led 4-0 in the ninth before Quad Cities rallied for six runs, including Morales’ grand slam.
Michael Tarsi pitched well for the Snappers but did not factor in the decision. The lefthander pitched 6-plus innings and did not allow a run while striking out five.
Jeffrey Lanning’s two-run triple in the eighth gave the Snappers a 4-0 lead.
The Midwest League All-Star game is Tuesday night in Clinton, Iowa.
The Snappers’ lone representative will be left-handed pitcher Joe Testa.
Testa, who suffered the loss Sunday, is 0-2 with a 2.56 ERA in 25 games. He has seven saves, while striking out 63 and walking only 23.
The Snappers return to action Thursday night at Clinton, Iowa.
