Maymon leads Division 1 South boys to victory

— Jeronne Maymon’s high school basketball career ended like most games the Madison Memorial superstar played in—with a victory.

Maymon, a Marquette University recruit and the state Player of the Year, scored 20 points to rally the Division 1 North all-star team to a 92-87 win over the South here Saturday at the UW Field House.


The North trailed by two points after three quarters, but outscored the South 23-16 in the final period.


Jordan Giordana’s three-point basket with 9:13 left to play gave the North the lead for good at 72-71. Giordana, of Kaukauna, finished with 17 points.


Germantown’s Ben Averkamp of the South matched Maymon for game-high honors with 20. Elkhorn’s Erik Bryson had six points and a game-high six assists for the South team.

n South 85, North 74—La Crosse Aguinas’ Jimmy Whitehead scored 22 points to lead the South to the come-from-behind victory.


The South trailed by seven at halftime, but outscored the North 44-26 in the second half.


Whitefish Bay Domincan’s Jerrel Harris added 16 points for the South.


Luck’s Brennan Olson, Brillion’s Andy Popp and Laconia’s Derek Semenas scored 15 points each to pace the North.

n South 100, North 63—Potosi’s Derek Flesch scored 18 points to lead six players in double figures as the South all-stars cruised to the Division 4 win.


The South raced out to a 44-32 halftime lead and never looked back.


Burlington Catholic Central’s Reese Hartlage added 15 points for the South, and Benton’s Connor Hendricks chipped in 13.


Prentice’s Don Anderson was the only North player in double figures as he scored 13 points.
