Legion rolls in opener

JANESVILLE — Janesville’s American Legion baseball team began its Lakes Area Region 7 League title defense in emphatic fashion here Wednesday night.

Sparked by a pair of six-run innings, Janesville rolled to a 12-1 win over Genoa City in five innings in a season opner at Riverside Park.

Janesville took advantage of four Genoa City errors to wipe out a 1-0 deficit in a six-run second inning. Zach Bayeuther’s RBI double was one of four hits in the inning.

Dylan Grall had a double, and Brett Fredricks, Zach Whalen, Kaleb Eichmann and Jake Kobs contributed singles to a six-run fourth that put the game out of reach.

Janesville returns to action at 7 tonight with home game against Franklin.
