Middleton High and Sun Prairie will join Janesville Craig in making it a Big Eight threesome at the WIAA Division 1 state baseball tournament.

After slipping past Reedsburg, 3-2, in the semifinals of the Middleton Sectional, the host Cardinals roared into the state quarterfinals with a 19-5 rout of Onalaska in Tuesday’s championship game.

Onalaska reached the sectional finals by shocking top-ranked La Crosse Central, 5-1, in the sectional opener.

Sun Prairie beat Big Eight rival Madison La Follette, 3-1, and outlasted Oshkosh West,

9-8, to win the Oshkosh North Sectional.

That earned Sun Prairie a 3:30 p.m. matchup with Bay Port next Tuesday at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute. Middleton plays Craig in the 1 p.m. game.

Sun Prairie scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to get past Oshkosh West and earn its fourth state tournament trip in five years.

Middleton had 17 hits and will be in the state tournament for the fifth time since 2002.
