Eastman delivers for Edgerton baseball, other scores

Edgerton High’s Josh Eastman produced a monster game as the Crimson Tide knocked off Monroe, 10-1, on Tuesday in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal baseball game.

Eastman pitched a complete game and went 3-for-3 with five RBIs as the top-seeded Tide

(16-5) earned another home game today against Beloit Turner, a 9-8 winner over Clinton.

Today’s game at Edgerton is scheduled for 4:45 p.m., and the winner advances to the Dodgeville Sectional.

Turner beat Edgerton, 5-4, in the teams’ only regular-season meeting, and both went on to Rock Valley division titles.

Eastman (7-0) struck out seven and allowed no walks. Monroe (9-15) scored its run in the first inning with two infield hits sandwiched around a sacrifice bunt.

Edgerton, meanwhile, played long ball, whacking three doubles and two home runs among the 10 hits for the Rock North co-champions.

Adam Gregory led off the Edgeton first with a home run. Kyle Johnson gave the Tide a 3-1 lead with a home run in the same inning. Gregory finished 2-for-3 and Zac Nelson was

-- Turner 9, Clinton 8—Anthoni Jacobs scored the winning run on an error in the bottom of the seventh inning after Clinton had tied the Division 2 regional semifinal game with a five-run top of the seventh.

The Trojans (18-4) play at Edgerton today in a regional final that leads to the Dodgeville Sectional.

Turner built an 8-3 lead

before the Cougars rallied. Brad Birkholz walked to drive in one run, and Brad Hesebeck and Tim Loudon each singled in another. But the Trojans got out of the inning with the bases loaded.

Two walks and the error then gave Turner the win.

Aaron Jones hit a homer for the Trojans.

Brad Hesebeck went 3-for-4 to lead the Cougars’ eight-hit attack.

-- Evansville 4, Lodi 1—Taylor Koch pitched a one-hitter to lead Evansville to a Division 2 regional baseball semifinal victory.

Evansville (19-4), the ninth-ranked Rock Valley North co-champion, faces fourth-rated Madison Edgewood (20-3) at 4:45 p.m. today at the Bishop O’Connor Center (formerly Holy Name Seminary) in Madison. The winner advances to the Dodgeville Sectional for a semifinal game against Edgerton or Beloit Turner.

Koch allowed eight walks but managed to avoid disaster as Lodi left seven runners on base.

Evansville scored all its runs in the third inning on two hits and two Lodi errors. Tucker Johnson got an RBI double to highlight the inning.

-- Lakeside 4, St. John’s 1—Justin Eternick doubled and tripled, and starter Brian Klug pitched a five-hitter to lift the Warriors past St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy in a Divison 2 regional semifinal game at Delafield.

Lakeside (19-7) plays Kettle Moraine Lutheran today for a berth in the Chilton Sectional.

-- Union Grove 3, Whitewater 0—One inning carried the Broncos past the Whippets in a Division 2 regional semifinal game.

The Broncos scored all their runs on three of their four hits and three walks in the second inning. Joe Balestreri drove in one run with a single, and back-to-back walks drove in the other two.

The Whippets (13-12) had seven hits but left 11 runners on base.

Union Grove (14-13) hosts Racine Lutheran today for a Chilton Sectional berth.

Ganther struck out 10 and walked only one. Luke Drummond went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, as the winners scored three times in the first inning and four more times in the seventh.

Pat Cottrell and Mike Stellmacher singled for Jefferson’s only hits.

Lutheran/Prairie plays at Union Grove today for a berth in the Chilton Sectional.

-- Parkview 3, Cuba City 1—Joe Cash limited host Cuba City to just a run, and the Vikings scored three runs despite just three hits in advancing to today’s Division 3 regional final at Mineral Point.

Matt Woodstock walked, stole second and scored on Darryl Dyksta’s single in the first to give Parkview (13-11) the lead for good at 1-0. Woodstock also had a two-run single in the third after Travis Peterson singled and Robbie Demery walked.
