Big third inning propels Beloit, other scores

Beloit Memorial High used a four-run third inning to rally past visiting Milton and gain a 5-3 victory in a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal baseball game Tuesday night.

Fourth-seeded Beloit (8-19) plays top-seeded Janesville Craig on Friday at Riverside Park. There will be a $3 admission for the 5 p.m. game, which will send the winner to the Craig Sectional.

Beloit overcame Milton’s 3-0 lead on an RBI double by Jeff Edwards, a two-run single by Zach Woodman and an RBI double by Zach Reed.

The Purple Knights’ rally made a winner of starting pitcher Drew Larson.

Milton’s Sam McCann went 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Red Hawks.

-- West 5, Verona 1—Josh Minkoff limited the Wildcats to one hit as Madison West earned a berth in Friday’s Division 1 regional title game at Stoughton against the host Vikings.

Minkoff had eight strikeouts and just one walk.

West’s Chet Lubarsky went 3-for-3. Graham King had two RBIs for the Regents, who will be battling for a berth in the Janesville Craig Sectional.

-- Elkhorn 12, Westosha 6—Elkhorn sent 10 batters to the plate, and Ryan Shaw hit a three-run homer in a six-run eighth inning that advanced the Elks to a regional final game.

Chris Nehs hit a two-run homer in the first inning for Elkhorn (7-12). Devin Padin pitched the final three innings to earn the victory.

Leadoff man Eric Bierman went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs for the Elks.

Elkhorn plays at Southern Lakes champion Wilmot on Friday. The winner advances to the Lake Geneva Badger Sectional.

Matt Paul and Ben Lodahl each drove in three runs for the Comets, and Justin Fowlkes added a double.

Waterford (15-8) overcame a 7-4 deficit as it advanced to a regional title against Badger at Lake Geneva, where the winner will earn a berth in the Badger Sectional.

Matt Haase hit a three-run homer, and Mitch Berg added a two-run shot in the six-run first inning for the Beavers, who play at Sun Prairie on Friday for berth in the Oshkosh North Sectional.
