ELKHORN Come one, come all: From odd animals to country music stars, law enforcement officers racing on bouncy ponies to tractor pulls.
The 160th Walworth County Fair will have it all.
This year’s theme will be “Hats Off to the Fair,” and final preparations are being put in place.
“We’re proud for being known as one of the best county fairs in the state of Wisconsin, and probably in the nation,” said Ed Sokolowski, president of the Walworth County Fair Board.
Fair Board Director Becky Merwin said one of this year’s new attractions will be an unusual pet contest Saturday, Sept. 5.
“That would be your furriers and rats and gerbils and feathers and fish and cage birds and crawlers, like lizards and iguanas,” Merwin said. “We’re excited to try something outside the box.”
Only 50 participants will be allowed, Merwin said, so those interested should register soon.
The grandstand will bring Badger State Tractor Pulls, a demolition derby and the strongman competition. Musical attractions include country western stars Craig Morgan and Gary Allan, and rock band Styx.
For law enforcement and emergency response, here’s a challenge: This year’s fair will include a bouncy pony competition. The prize is yet to be unveiled, but event organizers hope to see officers showing what they can do on a bouncy pony.
This year’s fair will continue to have a tractor pull but with a new twist: an antique portion of the pull.
The antique tractor pull will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2. The regular tractor pulls run by Badger State Tractor Pulls return the evenings of Wednesday, Sept. 2, and Thursday, Sept. 3.
Attractions for kids will include the Bosworth’s Lumberjack Show and chainsaw artist Dave Watson.
