Favre’s indecision is now paying off
MINNEAPOLIS Give Brett Favre credit. The quarterback might be unable to make up his mind about whether he wants to play for the Minnesota Vikings, but he has found a way to turn his waffling ways into additional income. Not to mention poke fun at himself.
In a television commercial that will be part of the launch for the Sears Blue Electronics Crew campaign and begin airing in September, Favre agonizes over selecting a new LED television. Favre has a discussion with a Sears sales rep played by actor Brad Morris (from “The Second City” comedy club in Chicago).
During their discussion, Morris talks about the advantages Sears offers to help guys who have a tough time making decisions and then adds, “You know the type, right?”
Favre replies: “Yeah, I hate those guys.”
The spot was shot last Tuesday in Schaumburg, Ill. According to information provided by Sears, the commercial was taped with several potential punch lines and endings, with the final choice to be revealed when the commercial hits the airwaves.
There is a chance the Vikings won’t find much humor in the spot. Training camp practices start Friday, and they still are awaiting Favre’s decision about whether he will end his retirement.
ESPN reported that Favre’s agent, Bus Cook, said after talking to his client Monday morning that “Brett (is) still thinking things over, but knows a decision has to come quite soon.” Favre, who will turn 40 on Oct. 10, has said he will have a decision by Thursday. That is also the day by which players must report to Mankato.

ok, I get that Brett Favre is someone I will probably never meet. I get that it is his right to play. But, for a second, look at it from a different angle...
The Packers never said they didn't want him. He would have started in the opening game, HAD HE NOT virtually "quit" a few months prior. You used the analogy of whether I would want to work when I knew my boss didn't want me there. I think his boss didn't want him there because he already told his boss he didn't know if he could do the job or deliver the NFL quality he once was able to. That's the difference (in my opinion).
I think by changing his mind over and over has tarnished his reputation of being able to call a play. I empathize with the guy...I know he loves football and is a terrific player of the game. I think his efforts could be better spent and his value/self-worth would be invaluable to underpriviliged kids who just want to play football, too.

spunk, it is because I am a fan of his I don't want to see his legend tarnished by making it a mockery. I never said he could not play if he wanted to, that is his right. But as a fan, I also have a right to my perspective. I didn't want to see the Dan Marino Syndrome happen to him. Most real fans of football will tell you, Marino was great but played too long.Elway did it right.
Oh, and sarah, a true Packer fan fears no one their beloved team plays.

Spunkmeyer: I agree with you. For so-called Packer fans, they sure turned on a guy rather quickly. Even though few of them will admit it, I bet more than a few of them are breathing easier tonight knowing they won't have to worry about Brett facing them from the other side of the ball.

If you got pissed cuz a guy you've never met came outta retirement to play for a team that you're not a fan of, you should sincerely think about re-evaluating your life.

chad - Thanks for the correction. Obviously, I didn't keep up with Reggie White's career after he left the Pack. So explain this to me...why is it "just wrong" if Brett wants to play for a team that actually wants him? How does it affect you PERSONALLY? If you're not a fan of his, fine. Then don't watch him play. If he plays badly or plays well, why does it matter to you if you're not a fan? You all bitch about his ego. But I think you whiners are the ones with an ego issue.

Spankmeyer, to me it sounded like the Packer players wanted Brent Farve back but the front office didn't. By the way, I was pissed that Reggie White didn't stay retired as a Packer player. He had to go and find out from himself and from God that he should have stayed retired.

spunk, Reggie came back to play for the Panthers, not the Eagles. You make a point, but at least Reggie knew after that year that coming back was just wrong, but Brett apparently didn't watch his film of the Jets games at the end.

And btw...Not one Packer fan bitched or whined when Reggie White came outta retirement to play for the Philadelphia Eagles. Nobody said he smeared his good name. Nobody begged him to stay retired. Get over it already.

How is it smearing his good name by wanting to play?? How does this affect Packer fans PERSONALLY?? The Packers didn't want him. If your job didn't want you, would you never work for another employer again?? My God people. Use your brains.

I also "was" a big, no wait, HUGE fan of Brett Favre. I am just disappointed in the turn of events and his indecision..."yeah, I hate those guys"....

Seriously Brett...do every Packer fan a favor and stay retired. The money just cannot be worth the negative press, can it? We get that you love the game. Teach disadvantaged kids or volunteer at a boys/girls club. Please (I'm BEGGING you) don't smear your good name even more.

Yes, I also just read that Brett Favre has decided to stay put. I also heard on the radio that when Ted Thompson heard the news, he joyfully called Rodgers come down to the office where the two then stripped naked and danced. Green Bay just hasn't been the same without Brett.

I'm a 100% Packer fan and over the last few years Brett Favre has become a big time loser in my book.
He had offers and could have pretty much retired at an old age working in the Packer organization but was just too stupid to do so.
He has left the hearts of many in Wisconsin... very sad when you think about it :(

favre doesnt know what he wants and he is a pathetic looser! you and he have to remember there is no "I" in team. he did not take them to the superbowl. the team did it. it would be kinda hard to play football if you were the only one on the team. he needs to grow up and stop playing his stupid games thinking he is the greatest and everyone needs to sit back and wait on him. you know this is all this is to him is a game and he will do it again. hopefully he gets sacked hard enough for someone to make up his mind for him!

It's funny how some people call Favre a below average quarterback. do you know how stupid you sound????? When just two years ago you were calling him the best ever. And, oh yeah, He's a diva!!! I'm almost embarassed to be a packer fan, listening to all you diva's whining because your favorite player might go play for a rival.. Give me a break. Remember. He retired, then he felt like he didn't want to retire. He has that right!!! He wanted to join the packers, they didn't want him. The jets did. So he played for the jets. He retires. He say's now that he doesn't want to retire. His right!! So now the vikings are interested in him. Are the PACKERS???????? Now, they are not. He wants to play and the vikings want him to play. Just remember, that diva won your sorry a$* a superbowl. that diva has won three M.V.P's. That diva holds all the records a quarterback could dream of, but because he wants to play, that makes him a diva. I love Brett no matter who he plays for.
