WCLO's Steve Benton reports the Beloit Police and Fire Commission decides to go "national" in their search for the next police chief

RSS

— The Beloit Police and Fire Commission is taking it's search for a new police chief nationwide.

Meeting Monday night, commission chair, Bob Harrer, says they want to see who's available.

He believes there are great options available locally, and he says anyone interested should apply.

Deputy Chief Norm Jacobs will run the department while the search is conducted.

Harrer says the next step is for city staff to find a search firm and to set up a timeline for the process. He thinks the search and selection process could take up to six months.

Chief Sam Lathrop retired recently after it was revealed he is involved in an intense relationship with a female sergeant under his command. Lathrop and his wife Pam are going through divorce proceedings.
