The Janesville School Board is scheduled to discuss whether to accept federal stimulus funds for the school district's special education programs.

Superintendent Karen Schulte says up to fifty percent of the $2.4 million grant could be used for other purposes in the school district, as maintenance of effort. She says the funds not used for special education caused a bit of controversy at the last regular board meeting. Schulte's recommendation is that the funds not used for special education be held until the school district's budget is sorted through. She expects that to happen in September.

Schulte says she's heard some board members say they want the administration to figure out how to dispense the grant funds, and others requesting more detailed information on how the money will be used.

The board approved use of $150,000 of the special education portion for projects with immediate need.

The board meets Tuesday at 6pm in the Educational Services Center, 527 S. Franklin St.

They know dang good & well they're taking it! We see this in congress a lot too, & I'm just fed up with politicians who pretend to be treading sensitive issues, so constituents will think.. "see they do care about our opinions. They're actually thinking of refusing 2.4 million dollars. I'm sure glad I called, faxed, or emailed their office to voice my disapproval of taking federal money." Just stop it, because no one buys it anymore. I saw in this morning gazette what your real concern is.. According to the reporter, Lori Stoddler @ lstottler@janesville.k12.wi.us ,wants to make it mandatory for our kids to sit and watch Obama on TV, during school time.. when Obama wants to talk directly to our kids. Some of you are suppose to be educators. "How many politicians in history can you come up with that, targeted children when they couldn't get the adults on board with their agenda?" Obama targeted our children during his campaign. Can anyone name leaders from history when got they're positions the same way? Out of the once you can think of, how many of those had "Czars" in their administrations? I guess its true. Even educators forget history.. which is why we're doomed to repeat it. I'm glad I home school my kids, & I'm for sure home schooling my grandson when he's ready.
