West Junior Legion team falls

MARINETTE — The Janesville West Junior Legion baseball team suffered a 5-2 loss to Wisconsin Rapids to be ousted from the state tournament here Saturday.

Wisconsin Rapids scored four runs on two hits, including a two-run home run in the sixth inning for a 5-1 lead and bury Janesville West.

Janesville West was held to six hits, including RBI singles from Tanner Moe and Taran Kobs.

“All weekend we didn’t hit very well,” Janesville West coach Brian Martin said. “We had our opportunities. We left seven guys on base.’’

Legion West starter Trent Kobs took the loss, allowing five runs on four hits through 5 1-3 innings.

Janesville West finishes 19-10 overall.
