WCLO's Steve Benton reports on local efforts to keep tourists supplied with information on Wisconsin

RSS

— The owners of a Beloit business are offering local tourism officials space in their "Superstore" to help supply tourists with information on attractions in the state.

Because of budget constraints, the state can no longer afford to staff the tourist information section of the state's "welcome centers" on the interstate.

Executive Director of Visit Beloit, Martha Mitchell, says the Cornellier family has a building on the southwest side of the I-90 / Hwy 81 interchange and are willing to give Visit Beloit some space at no charge. Mitchell says she's leaning toward accepting the offer.

At the same time, Mitchell says she is continuing efforts to convince the Department of Transportation to let them staff the Beloit welcome center with local volunteers.
