WCLO's Steve Benton reports on Rock County planning for the return of the H1N1 virus

RSS

— The Rock County Health Department is preparing for the return of the H1N1 virus this fall.

Health Officer, Karen Cain, says "that strain of the flu hasn't gone away" and she wants the public to get ready for a planned "mass vaccination clinic."

The Federal Government isn't sure when the special vaccine will be available, but thinks it will be between September and December.

Cain says the H1N1 vaccine is different than the vaccine sent out for the various other flu "strains" and those who normally take part in the flu clinics will want both vaccinations.

She says there have been over 6,100 confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus in Wisconsin and 44 of them were in Rock County. There have been six deaths attributed to the H1N1 virus in the state.
